In the past, Japanese materials that had lesbianism as a basic theme were frowned upon by the culture, but in 1970 Ryoko Ymagishi published a gently love story about two girls who lived in an all girl’s boarding school. ‘Shiroi Heya no Futari’ (roughly translates as the ‘Girls of the White Room’) changed how stories based on female love (yuri) where accepted in Japan. Over the past years yuri manga and anime stories have become accepted more and more until they are now a part of the Japanese hentai mainstream.
