The beginning of modern manga as an art form in Japan was in the late 1940’s during the American occupation of the country after the end of World War II. The G.I.’s and the other occupational forces introduced American comics and cartoons to the Japanese populous. Very soon after, the Japanese proclivity for introducing sexual themes into their stories and artwork had made its way into their portrayals of comics and cartoons.
Whenever the content of mangas (comics) or anime (animated cartoons) deals with sexual material it is known as hentai. Hentai comes in many forms from very benign such as ecchi (soft porn) to very explicit sexual material like futanari (dickgirls) and BDSM (bondage/sadomasochistic). Hentai mangas are usually published as an anthology of short stories dealing with different topics, but there are a few publications that deal with a specific topic.
